Out of the two books I've read for ssr this past semester, the one that stood out to me the most was a book called Idaho by Emily Ruskovich. This book is a fiction and mystery novel that consists of 320 pages. I first discovered this book when I visited Barnes & Noble with my brother and I took a glimpse at this book and I knew I wanted it. I never really read mystery books so this was all new to me. The book is about a woman named Ann who tries to figure out what led to the tragic death of her husband’s two daughters. Her husband Wade fails to tell the true story each time Ann asks. Her goal is too piece each bit of information together to find her answers while her husband's mental state is slowly spiraling down. What made this book interesting to me is the time frames. Each chapter was either a step back, or step forward in time, which made it easier to tie the mystery together. Another thing I thought was amazing about this book was the endless amounts of surprises. Reading this book definitely had me on the edge of my seat as new things kept coming at me. I feel as if this is a more mature nature book, it has strong themes as well as violence. Idaho definitely changed my view on mystery books. I am now starting to see an interest in them. I would definitely recommend this book to family or even my friends.
The title caught my attention also, I was just scrolling until I saw the title Idaho and I had to read this blog on it because I've been there. I've also trying to get myself into mystery books, so I think I'll definitely try to read this book. I really enjoyed how you gave a glimpse how what the plot is, which makes it sound even more interesting.
ReplyDeleteThe novel interested me because I also read a mystery novel the first semester. Idaho is similar to the book I read, Gone Girl because the main character Nick is searching for his wife similar to Ann searching for her husband. I will definately consider reading this book, and I am also interested in the authors writing style in which they alter between time frames.
